Creating a Home I Want to Spend Time in with Fine Art America (Ad)
This is a paid partnership with Fine Art America. All words, thoughts and images are my own.
I know it’s not just me - we’re all spending much more time in our homes this year, and we’re all looking at the walls that surround us and making a list of the changes we’d like to make. We moved into our house two-and-a-half years ago, and following a huge renovation we soon got distracted with real life and all the jobs still on our list got pushed to one side. After spending much more time than usual at home over the past six months, my list of home improvements has become longer than my arm, and with the aim of feeling content, calm and inspired in my home, it’s time to finally tackle some items on that list - starting with the walls.
I love my house and I’ve filled it with things that I love and that inspire me, but one part that has been neglected has been the walls themselves. I often get distracted by the amazing views out of our windows, and seem to have completely forgotten that we still have a lot of dull, empty walls to fill. So when Fine Art America got in touch, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to finally deal with one of those walls.
Our kitchen-dining room is one large space zoned off by a half-height stud wall. Everything is very, very white, which is a great blank canvas but has become a bit too clinical for my liking. I work at the dining table for the moment, and big walls of white paint just aren’t very inspiring. I’ve been wanting to add colour to the large empty wall that joins the two zones of the room, and two framed prints by my favourite artist, Matisse, seemed like the perfect option.
I’d been toying with the idea of a gallery wall, but for now I decided to keep things simple with two beautifully framed landscape prints. The other rooms in our house have very distinct colour palettes, but I want this room to include bursts of bright colours, like a paint box. The simple white walls and wood-effect laminate floors are the perfect canvas for more vibrant splashes of colour in prints and accessories. I’m planning on using the palettes from these prints to help me decide what other elements to add to the room. I’m currently searching for the perfect cabinet to place on the opposite wall to display my favourite cook books, crockery and decorative objects. I’m usually into neutral tones and natural materials, so the rest of the objects in the room will predominantly be wood and ceramics, with the occasional burst of colour. The intention is to create a space where I feel inspired to work - and these prints are the perfect base for this.
Fine Art America have a huge selection of wall art, including framed prints, canvas prints and posters.
